About Richard Traina
Richard Traina was born in Worcester, Massachusetts in 1962. He joined Elkins, P.L.C. in 1996 and his practice centers around representing the firm’s clients in litigation and alternative dispute resolution matters in the substantive areas of, among other things, commercial and business litigation, securities litigation, intellectual property litigation, and bankruptcy litigation. Noteworthy litigation matters that Mr. Traina has worked on include cases involving the publication of judicial advertisements and legal notices in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, the taxation of jet fuel purchased by airlines in Louisiana for use on interstate flights, and the use of a famous New Orleans restaurant family’s surname in the names of restaurants owned by a member of that family and whether such uses were permissible under federal trademark law.

Prior to attending law school, Mr. Traina worked as a research scientist at the U.S. Naval Oceanographic Office in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi. His work there involved analysis and mathematical modeling of the earth’s geophysical characteristics in support of the Navy’s submarine-launched ballistic missile program.

At Loyola Law School, Mr. Traina was a member of both the Loyola Law Review and the 1992 National Moot Court team. After law school, Mr. Traina began his legal career in 1992 at a major law firm in the United States Virgin Islands, where he practiced until 1996. Mr. Traina has been a litigation attorney since he began practicing law. He also completed the National Institute for Trial Advocacy’s Gulf Coast Regional Trial Program in 1994.

Mr. Traina is a member of the Business Law Section, the Intellectual Property Law Section and the Litigation Section of the American Bar Association, and of several committees of those Sections related to his areas of practice.
