Shawn Richard, licensed to practice in Louisiana, North Carolina and Texas, enjoys a national practice representing lenders, investors, and developers in residential, hotel and commercial development arenas, including development of mixed-use and residential condominium developments, flex warehouse space, commercial business parks and residential subdivisions. Shawn counsels on structuring of transactions to take advantage of a multitude of financing sources including bonds, the Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credit, Low Income Housing Tax Credit, the New Markets Tax Credit, green credits, opportunity zone, PACE financing, tax increment financing, and public/private financing sources. He also advises on commercial leasing representing lessors and lessees, as well as the documentation of secured transactions representing national financial institutions and commercial borrowers. Shawn routinely advises clients regarding General Business and Corporate Matters, as well as contractual issues. He has closed financial transactions across the U.S. that in total have involved syndication of various tax credits in excess of $1,000,000,000.00.
Shawn helped to establish campJacob, a camp for the residents of St. Vincent’s Center for Handicapped Children in Port au Prince, Haiti. He is also the Vice-President and a Founding Board Member of Jacob’s Color Link Initiative, Inc. – a charity benefiting persons with disabilities in both the United States and Haiti.
Shawn joined Elkins in 2004. Following Hurricane Katrina, he practiced at Poyner Spruill, LLP in Charlotte, NC. Shawn rejoined Elkins in 2007.
