Susan Burkenstock is certified by the Louisiana Board of Legal Specialization as an Estate Planning & Administration Specialist as well as a Tax Law Specialist. She is a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel.
Advising clients on trust and estate planning matters such as drafting wills, trusts, including special needs trusts, powers of attorney, advanced directives and marital agreements is part of her practice as is succession litigation and mediation involving will contests, trust disputes, and fiduciary litigation.
Susan has extensive experience in advising nonprofits and private developers in major real estate financing projects involving federal tax incentives utilizing Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credits and has closed transactions deploying over $725,000,000.00, in New Markets Tax Credits in 32 states and the District of Columbia.
In addition, she provides counsel to closely held businesses in connection with structural planning, operations, contracts and lease negotiation. Her intellectual property practice focuses on federal and state trademark prosecution, defense and enforcement.
